July 19, 2009

The Department of Defense announced today the identity of Army Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl, 23, of Ketchum, Idaho, as the soldier who has been Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown (DUSTWUN) since July 1, 2009. His status was changed to Missing-Captured on July 3, 2009.


UPDATE: April 8, 2010: The Department of Defense announced today that the man shown on a video tape released by the Taliban has been identified as Army Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl.



June 16, 2011: Spec. Bowe R. Bergdahl was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on June 12, 2011. This is second promotion since he was listed as Missing-Captured.


UPDATE: MAY 31, 2014: The Department of Defense announced today that Army SGT Bowe R. Bergdahl was released by the Taliban.



July 24, 2010

NATO has confirmed that two (2) US military personnel are missing.

July 26, 2010

NATO has confirmed that one of two bodies has been recovered in the incident of July 23. The other US service personnel is still missing.

July 27, 2010

The Department of Defense has identified Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Justin McNeley, Wheatridge, CO as the service personnel who was killed in action on July 23. They also identified Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jarod Newlove of Renton, WA. and have listed as DUSTWUN.

July 29, 2010

The Department of Defense has identified the body July 28 is that of Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jarod Newlove, Renton, WA. He had been listed as DUSTWUN since the incident of July 23, 2010.
